Accountancy and Tax services for charities

As specialists in the world of charity accounting, Nicholsons understands that you face ever-increasing demands from complex regulations, including stringent financial reporting rules. Staying up to date with legislative changes is paramount - for example, the increase in accounting and reporting thresholds in the Charities Act, applicable from April 2009.

Being a charity also means that, unlike other organisations, your goals and objectives will not have maximising profit at their core.

However, finances are becoming a real focal point for many charities in the current economic climate. You need to operate as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible by making every penny count. Where organisations have compatible aims, joining forces and sharing expenses and expertise could make a real difference to their financial health.

All these special requirements mean that you require a very specifically tailored accountancy service. At Nicholsons, we work with clients ranging in size from small trusts to regional organisations with an annual income of several million pounds.

We provide the full gamut of services, such as accounts, audits and advice on specific tax, VAT, marketing or employee relations issues, to charities of all types and in all sectors. We understand that no two charities are the same, which means that everything from a set of accounts to ad hoc advice must be carefully tailored to your specific circumstances.

As the current economic difficulties have hit many charity clients hard financially, we are always willing to give support and advice to help you through the downturn. Nicholsons can identify ways to reduce costs without having to cut back on services, as well as provide essential expert advice on any merger or collaborative working.

You may benefit from installing the new version of SAGE Line 50 which has a specific module built into it that makes managing funds simple and easy.

The Charity commission has published a particularly useful checklist to help charities review their Strategy, Financial Health, Governance and Resource utilisation. For a copy of the checklist please click on the following link.

Nicholsons..... We don't just talk the talk.....

At Nicholsons, we are committed to helping charities excel at what they do best – helping others. Our team is prepared to put its money, and time, where its mouth is, by supporting a number of local and national charities.

In addition to the bi-monthly dress down days, Nicholsons are organising a Donate Don’t Dump Scheme, where team members donate their unwanted clothing items; whilst a recent spring clean campaign resulted in team members providing various items which were donated to four local charity shops – proving the old adage that one man’s junk is another man’s treasure.

The more energetic team members have also completed gruelling sporting challenges like the Pennine Challenge (walking 60 miles over a 24 hour period), the Race for Life and the London Marathon.

Our team members accounting skills are also a fantastic resource to be drawn on. Currently, we have partners taking on various voluntary roles, such as Treasurer of Market Rasen Round Table, Treasurer of Market Rasen Rotary Club, and a member of the project team to revamp a Charity Shop for Lincoln MS.

Nicholsons are always interested in ‘doing their bit’, so if you have any fundraising ideas you think we would be interested in, or want to find out more about what we can do for you, please contact us

We look forward to hearing from you!
